Sportprague's Indoor BMX Race
Prague - Letnany, March 1st, 2003
The races were as a one part of this mentioned exhibition. The main competition maker was Rene Zivny, a popular Czech BMX helper, who designed and built something like a BMX track in the hall about 900 sq meters. Here is a short description: all track was about 2,5 ms wide and 120 ms long. Starting ramp with lights for two riders. There were small speed jump after the start small table and the first curve next double jump which had only 2 ms then the second curve then the jump which was crossing with the first one and the last curve and a finish. So funny, isn’t it?
Everyone could have had a practice from Wednesday. All it started at 10 am on Saturday with a little bit of training. There were about 40 riders in one cathegory which contained guys from 13 yrs old and older and pros. And the system of the race? It was the system you can know from MTB duel competition. Two riders and who had two conquests moved to the next round. Our members Rosli, Hout and Bydza held the honour of our crew! Mosnik couldn’t have taken a part in this race because he was after a horrible fortnight flu. But we had a next rider in this race too and it was Jirka Mosna, our BMX friend from Jicin. There were other guys from BMX Jicin crew too, wesi and Kreca and Rada (you can’t know this guy cause he is a friend of Mosnik and former BMX racer) and their main aim was to take lots photos and movies.
Each one had to go to the qualification and the top 32 riders went to the competition. The races were boring so there is no reason to mention it but no-one was hurt or killed. The most interesting parts were the both semifinal rounds. In the first one were Jakub Hnidak who goes to the Swiss Webco Team and Lukas Panka from PS Team. Panka was the winner and he moved to the final round against the winner from the second semifinal round. There were two riders from the Czech new professional BMX team called Author. Michal Prokop won this duel against Lukas Tamme.
Michal Prokop was against Lukas Panka in the final round. Michal Prokop beated Panka and the third was Lukas Tamme. These riders received some bucks and indoor dirt jump contest could start. We will bring you report about dirt jump contest a little bit later because Hout wants to write it by himself.
This race made a big name of this sport and helped to expand this sport in the Czech Republic. A big thanx belongs to Rene Zivny who organized and also moderated all this action.
